Nintendo has never really been seen as a company that handles online gaming particularly well, and we're not going to be getting an incredibly deep online experience like Xbox Live or anything. But Nintendo's offering is free and they have made the changes that fans have been asking for. The biggest change is the introduction of universal friend codes, which is a much-needed departure from the game-specific friend codes found in the previous generation. This means that, instead of needing to remember and exchange friend codes for each and every game you have, there is a single twelve-digit code for your entire 3DS. This will also make it easier for developers to integrate friend codes properly into their games as its Nintendo's own software handling a lot of the work. And seeing as friend codes aren't the most convenient form of identification, Nintendo is finally allowing gamers to manage a friends list for up to 100 friends or so. This list can be found via the HOME menu in the 3DS and can be opened at pretty much any time due to the 3DS's ability to multi-task. Before we begin lets list the basics of which all DS models have. You get a dual screen setup with the bottom screen being a touch screen, a built in microphone and each system comes with a stylus. Now each model does has a unique difference which we will get into as we compare each model. We'll start off with the DS Lite which I feel is the DS model that really launched the platform. It was an upgrade and a step up from the original DS which was much more bulky and didn't have the sleek design that the new DS Lite came with and a much brighter screen which was needed. One unique feature of the DS Lite is that it was the last of the DS to come with a GBA slot which was key for those that were upgrading from their Game Boy Advance or Game Boy Advance SP. This was the model that made the DS the game changer that it promised to be. After the success of the DS Lite Nintendo decide to step up the game a little bit more but lose a little something with the introduction of the DSi. I had a DSi but I traded it in a year later for a DSi XL which both had pretty much the same hardware features with the larger screens as the biggest difference so we will use the DSi XL as the example for the DSi lineup. The Nintendo 3DS Ultimate Starter Kit is a collection of accessories for your Nintendo 3DS intended to give you all your need while on the go. The kit is made by RocketFish which is an in-house brand from Best Buy and the kit is officially licensed by Nintendo. We'll take a look at each item in the kit. Bottom Screen Guard This part of the kit is what I disliked the most. I'm personally not a fan of any screen guards as I feel no matter what they just get in the way and smudges up the screen. This screen guard didn't even come with a card to help lay it on the screen without getting air bubbles in it. I know you can just get another card like a business card or playing card but it should come in the kit standard. You should skit using this screen guarded period. Styluses The kit comes with two extra Styluses in red and black with white tips and the end of them. The work on the screen just fine and fit into the stylus slot just like the original does without being loose or dropping out. I would say the only knock against it would be that it doesn't slide out as smooth as the original one does but that's not a huge issue.
